Plesk

I managed my own dedicated server for 18 years remotely (it was hosted in Canada and I am in the UK). In that time I naturally became quite adept with IIS admin, and did all the routine tasks myself like setting up websites, DB admin etc. What you might call DevOps nowadays.

I sold the main website that justified having a dedicated server in 2014 and downsized to a shared server hosted here in the UK for the remaining websites like my own, like this one.

Being on a server with hundreds of other websites is slightly thought provoking but my host (hostinguk.net) provide a wonderful tool called Plesk that allows access to pretty much all IIS settings, well the ones that you need.

Plesk is a bit convoluted especially when searching for settings but I have now used to it and I have to say I like it a lot.

Plesk is not perfect so I'm posting some work arounds here that I have discovered the hard way so that you don't have to!
